Meet one of the most amazing people I know Zainab Ashadu, Creative director and CEO of Zashadu and mama of 1

what is the best advice you have been given on parenting? The one that I find the most useful is to take care of myself, and pay even more attention to the relationship I have with my partner. A happy Mum is the best type of Mum.

what are your kids’ favourite foods? Anything with a bit of spice, my 1 year old boy loves; once he kept nibbling at my spicy plate of food, and was moaning and whimpering but kept coming back!

what is your favourite meal to cook for the family? My special jollof rice with smoked fish, or my blackened pan fried chicken and my honey-orange salad. They love it.

what are the kids’ favourite toys? All types of cars big and small, and right now also, the broom!

what three items do you always have in your bag when out with your kids? I would be nuts to leave home without some type of wipes, a snack and lots of water.

What is a good family day out in Nigeria? Our preferred one is visiting family, hanging round the pool and a bbq going. It’s almost always the right weather for that. Failing that, a noisy brunch and the movies afterwards.

what have you found to be the hardest part of your motherhood journey? Striking a balance is the hardest thing. Being the most important person to everyone can be totally exhausting.

what is the best part of motherhood? That delicious, exclusive bond between mother and child is hard to put into words.
